CATO PHIMUS

Cato, one of his aliases that he's now stuck with permanently thanks to his newfound fame, was a traveler before he met Thancred in Uldah. He's a very capable fighter, and very smart, but has an extremely offputting cold personality. He avoids putting in any effort or caring about anything early in his relationship with the Scions-- he barely even listens to what he's being ordered to do. At the same time, he seems to know what to do and how to do things before its explained, and he never says how he learns these things, adding another layer to his strangeness.

Cato is purposefully unclear about his background but he lived in Garlemald for a while, and has a very high tolerance for cold and a very low tolerance for heat. He was distant and aloof as a child, too-- and offputtingly precocious.
Anything else about him stays a mystery until shadowbringers, when it becomes increasingly clear he knows more than he's letting on. He also becomes more and more apathetic towards his own death-- he's sure that if he dies he'll be reborn remembering everything again, so he has nothing to lose. Cato was born with the memories of his past life: he remembers everything about what it was like to be Iomedes, his Azem. Iomedes was not a good person and Cato has lived with the regrets of his past self for his entire life, vowing to be a better person despite nearly being identical physcially.

Cato and Kore are two shards of the same Azem, with Cato holding the majority of the rejoined shards so far. Cato is identical to Iomedes in all but personality, while Kore only inhereted Iomedes' eyes, having the appearance of previous incarnation of one of the shards she's absorbed.
